Japan
Born in Onomichi, Hiroshima in 1948. Graduated from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music with a degree in Nihonga (Japanese-style painting). Debuted as a picture book author in 2008, the year of his 60th birthday. Akibingo’s debut work Shitano dobutsuen (Zoo Below) won the 14th Japan Picture Book Award, and a subsequent work, 30,000 ko no suika (30,000 Watermelon), won the 21st Japan Picture Book Award Grand Prize in 2015.
